Now you can learn the secrets of horse “whispering”, from the modern natural horsemen and their mentors, all the way back through the classical Spanish Riding School, to ancient wisdom. Whether you dream of competing in the Olympics, or just want to enjoy a recreational trail ride, the principles and techniques you will learn go well beyond “Western” or “English” riding styles. They are universal, and natural to the horse. This school of horsemanship is presented through weekly group lessons, each with their own provocative theme; from horse psychology to refined riding; from recreation to competition. Evan Bonner, 15 (Triple Diamond) Endorsements from Dennis Reis, now presents the Olympic Dream School of Horsemanship.
A “school” is not just four walls; it is a group of people who share the same principles, methods, ideals or styles. It is also a manner of providing knowledge and experience very thoroughly and in great detail. The Spanish Riding School is a place (now in Vienna), but also a way of teaching the most dedicated equestrians in the world. Classical riding traces its lineage from the modern, “natural” (a term coined by Pat Parelli) horsemen, such as Pat Parelli, Dennis Reis; and their mentors, Tom and Bill Dorrance and Ray Hunt, all the way back through the Spanish Riding School (and even to the Greek General Xenophon, 2000 years ago). It is in this classical tradition that the “Olympic Dream School of Natural Horsemanship” is offered to you.
In the classical tradition the horse’s skills are developed on the ground before the rider ever mounts up. The same skills are needed for the most dedicated competitor in any discipline, and the most casual trail rider. This is now playfully called “Ground School” after the method of teaching pilots to fly—first on the ground, then in the air. You start with safety and progress to effective, refined, elegant riding, in any discipline. This is neither “English” nor “Western”, which are merely costumes; it is “Universal” (a term coined by Dennis Reis). Ultimately, your communication with your horse will become so subtle that no one can see how you do it. You will become a horse “whisperer”.
The program is offered in weekly group lessons, with each week following a different theme: foundation tasks and maneuvers, with an emphasis on mechanics; liberty work (refining foundation techniques without a halter or lead rope); horse psychology and sensory work (i.e. working on fears and anxieties); school figures and patterns from classical traditions with an emphasis on refinement. Also included at opportune times will be information on saddle fitting, bit fitting, hoof care, nutrition, and natural horse keeping.
